Middle School Science Teacher Position Overview

All teachers at The Queen City Academy Charter School advance the mission, goals and educational  philosophy of the school by planning and facilitating learning activities and experiences that advance the intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth of students, while enabling students to develop  competencies, skills and disposition to function successfully in society.

The Middle School Science Teacher should be able to:

  • Provide academic subject instruction in science, ensuring that curriculum maps and schedules are followed.
  • Plan for class activities, including preparing units and daily lesson plans, identifying materials to implement class activities, preparing class projects, giving children  feedback on completed work to ensure mastery of presented material, and grading  of tests and assignments in a timely manner.
  • Confer with other teachers concerning cross-curricular opportunities.
  • Communicate with parents on a regular basis about schedule, assignments, events,  and individual student needs.
  • Meet with parents during scheduled conferences during the school year.
  • Maintain grades and curriculum assessments online.
  • Attend weekly faculty meetings with division head and curriculum meetings as  needed.
  • Exhibit enthusiasm for science, engineering, and STEAM.
  • Collaborate as a team player with teaching colleagues and administration.
  • See the school as a community.
  • Support school by attending school sponsored events and activities.
  • Commit to ongoing professional development via workshop attendance, visiting other schools, and webinars.
  • Learn new skills and integrate technology as changing pedagogy dictates.
  • Model self-disciplined and ethical behavior.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will hold at minimum a Bachelor’s degree and certification as appropriate. The expectation is that all candidates hold at least a Certificate of Eligibility and QCACS leadership can provide guidance on obtaining full certification in the State of New Jersey. Candidates should be prepared to provide a copy of a valid New Jersey Certificate or proof of passing the required PRAXIS tests. Applicants must demonstrate cultural sensitivity, ability to  communicate with parents and students across lines of difference, have mastery of subject matter content, be a team player, hold high expectations of students and possess basic understanding of child development.

  • Develop an expansive curriculum that includes, but is not limited to, grammar and vocabulary, conjugation, Spanish culture, and participation in multilingual communities, which promotes the development of social, emotional, cognitive and academic skills.
  • Develop learning activities that include songs, poems, plays, stories, art and the spoken word. 3
  • Develop lesson plans and activities geared towards understanding culture and appreciation of Spanish-speaking countries.
  • Observe and evaluate student’s work and progress, providing regular feedback to students.
  • Instruct students both individually and in group, adapting teaching methods to meet students’ varying needs, interests, and learning styles.
  • Prepare, administer, and grade classwork and homework in order to evaluate student’s progress.
  • Plan and supervise class projects, guest speakers and other activities to promote learning.
  • Meet with parents/guardians to discuss children’s progress and resolve any ongoing issues.
  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order.
  • Decorate and maintain classroom look and bulletin boards.
  • At all times maintain appropriate boundaries between student and adult.
  • Perform other Middle School duties, including chaperoning field trips and attending meetings.
