History

The Queen City Academy Charter School was chartered by the State of New Jersey in 1999. After a planning year, the school opened September 6, 2000 with seventy-two students in newly renovated facilities at 7-9 Watchung Avenue in Plainfield, New Jersey. The school now resides at 815 West 7th Street and houses 324 students, Grades K-8 and in June 2013 The Queen City Academy Charter School purchased the current facility. In 2015, the school was granted an increase in enrollment of 72 additional students thereby expanding the facility with 4 more classrooms in September of that year. The founders, created a school where small class size and a caring and nurturing atmosphere allowed students to acquire more knowledge than it was commonly assumed they were capable of achieving.

Queen City LogoThe original school logo was created as the result of a school-wide contest held during the initial year of operation. This logo was a crown signifying the school’s name and the nickname for the City of Plainfield on top of buildings, which represented the immediate surroundings when the school was located Downtown Plainfield.

In 2014 the logo was updated to encompass the original design while being reflective of the academic prowess that QCACS has and continues to become by producing scholars prepared to flourish in the 21st century and beyond. Therefore, the updated logo is a shield that encompasses the original crown and building.
